I recently graduated from college and got my first real job and was starting to put like $500 a month into a scott trade account. I started buying some stocks. I was wondering if anyone has any tips or good online resources or any advice?

Stock market is full of emotions, traps and volatility. My advice is to get yourself free education online. Get an all-rounded view of the markets by reading all quality articles on strategies, technicals, etc. Now is quite bearish which is a good time to buy quality stocks. The URL below has many good articles for your reference.

Stuy the market for a while, and try to see the trends. Pick stocks from companies that have good financial bases, and are likely to be around for a long time. Pick commodities that are always going to be needed, like food retail, energy, or other consumer goods. Once you've bought stocks, don't panic if the price drops a little. If you've picked good stocks, the price will rise again in time. Make sure they pay a reasonable dividend compared to their price. If you do pick bad stocks, don't hang on for too long. Just accept your losses, and sell.
The web sites of the stock exchanges can often give you good information on making decisions.

Your first option should be to fund fully a retirement account. This is always a great investment.

If you have done this, or you wish to wait on the retirement fund, then one of the best things you can do is open a DRIP Plan.

They are seldom talked about because brokers make very little money when they suggest them. Yet, they have proven to be one of the best, if not the best, long-term strategy on Wall Street.

The best part is you get solid annual returns from well-known, safe Blue Chip companies like: McDonalds, General Electric, Pfizer, Walmart, US Bancorp. . . . . . . etc. . . . . . . .

They are inexpensive to start and maintain, and your dividends are reinvested for free.

They are perfect for small investors, as well as big investors. They are safe and allow you to not care about whether the market is going up or down.

There is no need for you to get to aggressive, you are young. Let dollar cost averaging and dividend reinvestment work in your favor.

Good Luck

I hope this information helps.

About 75% of all mutual funds under perform the stock market. All of them have management fees, and some have sales loads.

There are still some good mutual funds, but you have to know what you are doing.

ETF's are basically the same thing as mutual funds, except they have a lesser management fee on an overall basis.

DRIP Plans are a great investment, whether you are a beginner or veteran.

A retirement plan is always good also.
