I'm 19 and have been driving for 3 years with no accidents, until today.
Although it was only a fender bender, I still was shooken up pretty badly. Not physically, just emotionally. Thankfully, neither of us were hurt.
The accident was indeed my fault. I looked down at my phone for a few seconds and BAM, I hit the car in front of me.
The thing is I told her that I was late to work and trying to call my parents. Which I realize now is a BIG mistake. I told my parents that it was my fault, but I didn't tell them why.
We were going at a slow speed because there was some traffic and it was a merging lane.
We did not call the police, we only exchanged insurance numbers.
She was nice and she seemed around my age.
This happened at 10am, it's now almost 4am but I have not called my insurance company. What are the rules regarding this? Because it's not really my car, although I am a regular driver of the car, my dad owns the car. I gave all her info to him but he didn't call her yet.
I'm just worried about what will happen and if the insurance will cover it?
My dad wants me to lie and say that the freeway was free flowing and that she suddenly stopped causing me to hit her, but since I told her that I was late and trying to call my boss could she use that against me? What do I do?
